The cat who gave birth in my dorm corridor
IIT Madras is located in a forest and there are plenty of animals about. The wildlife lives in harmony with the human wildlife in the hostels. This little fellow below was given birth by the mother above (possibly the only female in the all boys hostel
Compare the kitten with the shoes on the right!
All this was barely 20ft from my dorm room.
We had been observing the knocked up cat for quite some time. When the cat was near its due date it kept roaming the corridor for a place to give birth — all of us kept hoping that the messy event does not happen in our room or just outside it (The cat had a habit of constantly scoping out potential sites for giving birth and once into your room took a lot of coaxing to send out).
And then one day we saw two kittens! One kitten died within the first few days (we are not clear what happened…whether another animal ate it or it died). Unfortunately this (above) kitten too did not survive more than a couple week. Nature is cruel.
Here is a video I shot from my Nokia.
